The inmates were asked which feast was coming up soon, and were then given a bit of
information about the monsoon feast of Sao Joao. They responded by saying that jumping in
wells was done during the festivities. We informed that in preparation for the festival of Sao
Joao we would make Koppels. Many inmates enthusiastically took up the activity by putting
together the flexible stems and binding/decorating them with flowers/ colourful leaves.
(Scissors were not given to them- I did the cutting, as a precaution) After the Koppels were
ready they wore them & modelled around the place. This activity generated interest and
good participation, promoting a creative and enjoyable physical activity.
Three popular San Joao related songs- Sao Joao (a tribute to C Alvares), Viva Sao Joao
(Bindasol) & Fuloi re Fuloi were played- the inmates enthusiastically danced to the music.
