Activity- Quiz on common flowers Of Goa

Today’s Activity was most delightful as besides the residents learning something new ,I learnt many new things too.
A quiz was organised on various flowers found in Goa .We discussed about why they liked flowers and how they could use them like for cooking ,preparing beverages,aesthetic appeal ,hair pieces etc.
Many could Identify most of the flowers ,some had seen the flowers but did not know their names ,some knew the Konkani names and some names in their local language.I added some rare flowers seen in Goa too but common in forests like the wild Turmeric flower.
It was an enjoyable session and I quizzed them again at the end too to see if they could remember what we discussed and some were able to answer ….Some of them looked like they were dreaming while the pictures were displayed on the screen but they were paying attention as they answered the questions correctly at the end.They were all rewarded with sweets.
It was encouraging to see them come forward to see the pictures close up as I wasn’t able to use the TV screen as the cable was not working to connect to the TV but showed them pics on the Lap Top .
Sister Annie took the trouble to get me another cable but I couldn’t connect that to my laptop. She too sat for the session and showed alot of interest.
They are eagerly waiting for the next quiz session…Maybe on trees of Goa , next .
I also observed that if one goes about 10-15 minutes earlier ,we can start the session on time and it also helps to send a message to sister a day earlier as a reminder that we are going to conduct it on the next day

The residents were taught to make easy peasy pipe cleaner flowers using a pencil.
They picked up the activity very quickly and even the ones who had difficult with using one of their hands made an effort to make the flowers and slowly and surely they were able to complete them.
The elderly Sister too learnt how to make them and called her housekeeping staff to learn too.
She has placed the bouquet of flowers in the display cupboard and showed me the flowers that Priti had showed them too.
