MOGADAN
by Riva Vaz
We arrived at 9 am at St John of God however we begun only around 9:30 as that was the time slot written on their notice board- 9:30- 10:00 am. Around 15-20 residents joined us for the session, while only 10-12 participated. I first gave them sheets that I had made on how to use your phone, we gave it to them as a guide. We then did some exercises while sitting in a chair. Next, my mom taught them some tongue exercises and other massage techniques for your hands and face. In the next 5minuites we did a short reflection. The sister responsible only came down after 9:30 and then left. We did not receive help from the administration. The response was pretty good as they seemed interested and also asked some questions, we were happy, however if the time slot was longer, we could conduct our session at a greater depth.
At Mogadan, when I spoke to the sister responsible, she stated that she didn’t want us to conduct exercises or dances as many people come and do the same thing with them. She also mentioned that she dosent want any more nail painting as it has caused some conflicts and fights within the inmates. So we conducted a simple passing the parcel game with around 12 residents, where their penalty was to sing or dance. And after we interacted with the residents personally. The residents that played, seemed to have fun and were happy to interact.
